After many years of teaching in a private college, in 2006 I gave up my job to travel to Thailand where I was going to teach English for twelve months. My contract with a Thai agency was to teach English to adult students in a college; this was located in a large town on the coast where many other foreigners also taught.
When I arrived in Bangkok, I was met by representatives of the agency who were going to drive me to the college and my accommodation. Things had changed though and I was informed that I'd be going to a village secondary school where my students would be aged between 11 and 16 years! I was horrified as I had never before taught young people and, in fact, I really do not like children!
The following is an account of my time in the village; copied from my diaries.
